Imo Govt. Partners Newmap To Check Ecological Problems

Imo State Government has reiterated it's resolve to continue to play a complimentary role in fight against erosion menace in the State.

Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere stated this after receiving the delegation from Nigerian Erosion Water Shade Management Project in his office last Monday, April 7, 2014.

He, however, disclosed that Imo State Government has concluded arrangement for the release of N300 million as counterpart fund as its own obligation to enable the body tackle erosion problems in the State especially in the present season.

He further appealed to the delegation to consider other erosion sites other than Urualla, Iheoma and Eziala Obizi in Ezinihitte Mbaise as they begin work in the next batch.

Imo Deputy Governor, more so, briefed the team on the transformations that have taken place in Imo State in less than three years of Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha led administration. Areas he mentioned are education, infrastructure and other social amenities while reiterating administration's resolve to addressing problems as they affect every zone in Imo State.

Prince Madumere, meanwhile, harped on the need to check ecological problems of the State as they pose serious threat to the progress of every society especially in the area of Agriculture, free interactions, whether socially, political, economically and otherwise, among communities and States.

The Commissioner for Petroleum and Environment, Prof. Okey Okoro thanked the Owelle Rochas Okorocha led Rescue Mission Government for release of counterpart fund, which he described as a clear demonstration of the love it has for the citizenry. He urged the delegation to do a good job in return.

Briefing the Deputy Governor earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Amos Abu said they were in the State to consolidation of their partnership with the State government to tackling erosion sites ravaging parts of the State. While thanking State Government for its positive disposition, he appealed for the timely release of the counterpart fund to enable them begin their function.
