The president of National Consolidation Group and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Hon. Ajon Ugboho, has said the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro should not be crucified for the tragedy that trailed the last Saturday recruitment exercise of Nigeria Immigration Service.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abuja on Friday, Hon. Ugboho warned those demanding the removal of Comrade Moro to desist from politicising the issue, saying the tragedy was pure human error for which only the minister couldn't be blamed.

Ugboho said “as the head of the interior ministry which oversees the activities of the immigration! Comrade Abba Moro can take responsibility for what happened, but people shouldn't make it look like the minister planned and executed the tragedy.”

The PDP chieftain said it was unfortunate that the opposition would capitalise on national tragedy such as last Saturday's to play politics of pull-him-down, as well as ethnicity.

He said, as a nation, everyone was pained by what happened, but lamented that some people were calling for the head of the minister as though that would bring the dead back to life or heal the injured.

He further noted that the tragedy at the Abuja National Stadium, especially, was as a result of impatience on the part of the applicants and inadequate logistics by the immigration authorities to properly manage the crowd that turned up for the exercise.

Ugboho condoled with the families of those that lost their lives in the stampede at the recruitment centres and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for giving automatic immigration employments to the injured and members of the deceased, saying the gesture was commendable, even as he noted that it would go a long way in alleviating pains of the affected families.
