The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State chapter says the State will be better off if Gov Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi throws in the towel having failed in his oath of allegiance to protect lives and properties of the Rivers people as the Chief Security Officer in the State.

This is coming on the heels of an open acknowledgment by Gov. Amaechi of rising rate of crimes and insecurity in the State while performing the ground breaking ceremony of the foundation stone laying of the new secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council.

The PDP in a statement from the office of the State Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah and signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Jerry Needam commends Gov. Amaechi for the open confession of his failure, adding that he should complement his inability to discharge this responsibility by turning in his resignation letter.

The party also regrets Gov Amaechi's continued misappropriation and application of billions of State funds voted for security into All Progressives Congress, APC sponsorship and only to turn around to blame his incapacitation on the PDP, the Police and perceived enemies.

On the spate of criminal activities after the redeployment of Commissioner Mbu Joseph as personally and publicly accepted by Amaechi, the PDP said Gov. Amaechi has at last admitted that he was the problem and not the former Police boss or the federal government as he was trying to impute.

“May we also emphasize that the PDP cannot stay watching our dear state plunged into anarchy and the lives of our people reduced to a gambling object of politicking only for the insensitive and power drunk state governor to resort to new buck-passing as all he can offer in his security responsibility to the people.

We'll continue to hold Amaechi responsible for any security breach and breakdown of law and order except he voluntarily resigns having accepted his inability to remain in charge of the affairs of the States”, the PDP declared.
