Boko Haram: Nigeria asks African nations to help crush insurgents.

Nigeria is asking the neighboring African countries to collaborate with it in the fight against insurgents ravaging some parts of the nation.

Senate President, David Mark and Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, are canvassing this position at the on-going 130th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference holding in Geneva , Switzerland.

Senator Mark noted that terrorism has grown beyond the confines of a single nation which obviously demands the collaboration of all nations to combat.

He also believed that peace and democracy would promote security in the land, saying that all emphasis should be on democracy and global peace that would facilitate development.

The President of the Senate was of the view that should all nations cooperate to fight insurgency , the perpetrators would have no hiding place.

In his comment, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives Ihedioha, noted that the growing insurgency is threatening and indeed undermining the peace of the nation. He said “all hands must be on deck to end the menace”.

He therefore urged neighboring African countries to support Nigeria to resolve this intractable issue of Boko Haram.

Ihedioha stated: “since the Nigerian civil war ended, never have we had our stability distracted as we have now. We urge countries like Mali, Cameroun , Niger and others to join forces to find solution to the problems.”

Ihedioha believes that the insurgents ravaging Nigeria are not our citizens, hence the cooperation of other countries has become necessary.

Nigerian law makers gave indication that they would support Cameroun born Martin Chungong who is contesting for the post of Secretary General of IPU . The African bloc at the conference has already endorsed Chungong for the position.

The incumbent Andres B. Johnson has ended a 16 year tenure.
