Former military head of state and Chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), General Muhammadu Buhari, has described the Islamist sect, Boko Haram as cowards, as a result of their targeting defenseless children.

He also declared that he was not afraid of the sect, saying “Im not bothered by them targeting me. Government has given me adequate protection.”

Buhari, who spoke in an interview with Sahara TV, took a swipe at what he called the “cowardly targeting of children in playgrounds, school students eating lunch, and shoppers at souks” by the Islamist group.

It will be recalled that in a recent interview with the Voice of America, the general referred to Boko Haram as “Devilish.”

“Nigeria has the capacity to nip this in the bud,” he said in the current interview, adding that one way to fight the group, and other would-be terrorist organisations was coming to agreements with neighboring countries like Chad, Cameroon, and Benin Republic over the unauthorised circulation of weaponry and training grounds.

He also compared Boko Haram with the Irish Republican Army (IRA) during the tenure of British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, adding that the two were similar, and so were the comparisons of issues surrounding the Nigerian Army's tarnished reputation in fighting the group and relating with citizens in the areas affected by terrorism.
