BAOBAB FOR WOMEN'S HUMAN RIGHTS OUTREACH

An Association for Womens Human Rights in Borno known as BAOBAB has observed that thenincessant bloodletting and systemic destruction of the economy of the North East underscores the urgent need for all hands to be on deck to arrest the situation.

Dr Hauwa Abdu Biu Borno State coordinator ssid in a press statement that she wishes to join hands with well meaning Nigerians to stress that while the media has been giving a fairly good coverage to the developments in the area, it is its condidered opinion that some aspects of the crisis sre under reported.

According to the association, areas under reported include: the abduction, rape and or killing of women especially school girks; the plight of orphans and widows who have lost their breadwinners, homes and sustained vsrious degrees of burns and injuries and are languishing in various hodpitals stressing thst these are cause for humanitsrian concern.

The Association points out that since inception of the crisis, farmers in the affected areas have been denied access to their fsrms, lrt akone sccess to the 10 Billon Nsira Dry Season Fsrming losn ksunched by the Federal Government.

It further observed that the emergence of a new class of destitutes scattered all over the cities without any social safety nets, trade in the area noth locally and internationally have been grounded; the disruption of educstion in sreas alredy known for backwardness in education and lack of wster , elevtricity, shelter and inability to pursue any kind of gsinful employment have resulted in the systemic dedtruction of the area and the psyche of the people.

BAOBAB has while commending the efforts of Governor of Borno state for all he has been doing towsrds arresting the unfortunate situation appeal to all Nigerians to continue praying for kasting peace while the Federal Government should as a matter of urgency ensure that the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces provide enough working materials and grant permission to their men sent on assignment to crisis areas to act promptly whenever they suspect terrorist attack.

The women equally requests all able persons to provide relief materiaks to those affected by insurgency attacks.
