Ekiti 2014: PDP Youths Express Fear Over Plan To Manipulate Primary Election

By Ikere PDP Youth

People's Democratic Party (PDP) youths in Ikere-Ekiti, under the aegis of Ikere PDP Youths Movement have expressed fear over alleged plan by some officials of the party's national secretariat to manipulate the governorship primary election, scheduled for March 15, 2014.

The youths alleged that it had uncovered plans to doctor the lists of the party's three-delegates-per ward in favour of one of the aspirants.

It called for a display of the delegates lists at the State Secretariat of the party, 72 hours before the primary election, saying; 'anything other than a consensus arrangement or transparent primary election will mean that we have by ourselves squandered the PDP chance of returning to power in Ekiti.

According to a statement issued on Thursday and made available to journalists, the PDP youths warned that any attempt to manipulate the primary election by using delegate lists that did not emanate from the various wards, will spell doom for the party.

The statement, which was signed by PDP Youths Movement Chairman, Wole Adebayo and Secretary, Biola Morakinyo, called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu to be mindful of those whose only interest was to clinch the party's ticket by whatever means, not-minding what happens on June 21.

They said it will be suicidal for some people to stay at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja and believe that they can foist a discreditted aspirant, who is standing trial for corruption and murder on Ekiti people.

While reiterating their call for the zoning of the governorship ticket to the Southern Senatorial Zone, the youths said; 'It is either the PDP picks its candidate from the South or the party loses the governorship election.'
