Jakana Attack: Boko Haram Sets 11 Elderly Persons On Fire
SAN FRANCISCO, March 04, (THEWILL) - The member representing Borno Central, at the Senate, Senator Ahmed Zannah, on Tuesday confirmed that the Boko Haram gunmen who attacked Jakana on Tuesday set 11 elderly persons on fire in some of the houses they razed.
Zannah, who spoke with journalists in Maiduguri, the state capital, said the residents of Jakana got wind of the insurgents, who attacked the village at about 8pm on Monday, and fled leaving the aged who could not flee behind.
The Senator said the insurgents set the houses ablaze and in the process burnt the 11 elderly persons beyond recognition because they could not flee or be taken captive.
The senator alleged that the soldiers who had initial fled on sighting the Boko Haram gunmen later summoned courage to fight the insurgents on realisation that the terrorists were not as many and prepared in their normal traditional.
Zannah said when the gunmen saw the military approaching, they beat a retreat with a warning that they would be coming to "finish the unfinished business.
" The Senator said many residents of the village started fleeing because of the threat, believing that the terrorists will soon return .
"Most of the people are now fleeing to Maiduguri out of fear," he said.
