NGO defrauds 327 women using Dame Jonathan's name

The Police in Delta State has uncovered a Non-Governmental Organization, the Women Relief and Restoration Initiative, currently defrauding women in the name of President Goodluck Jonathan wife's name.

The NGO, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, is not only based in Asaba but also in Anambra State.

One Anene Nwokoye and Amaechi Ndah after defrauding have been arrested to that effect after a failed attempt to defraud Monu Olubunmi of 5, Afadia, Umoji, Asaba, Delta State of N1.6 million.

The PPRO said investigations have shown that the suspects have defrauded over 327 women in Asaba metropolis of money running to millions of naira.

Parading them in Asaba, the Delta State capital, Kalu said over 327 women from Oshimili South Local Government Area of the state were defrauded of N1.6 million, including the aforementioned woman.

Kalu said: “Amaechi Ndah has been arrested.
“Also arrested is one Anene Nwokoye, 'm' aged 71 years, of Security Department, UNIZIK, Awka.”

According to the PPRO, the husband of the principal suspect, who had been approached, was about to pick an additional N250,000 on behalf of his wife when police swooped on him.

DSP Kalu said that investigation revealed that the fraudsters extended their operation to other parts of the state, duping unsuspecting women of their hard earn money.

She listed the items recovered from the suspects to include 74 copies of Women Relief and Restoration Initiative membership forms.

She vowed that other fleeing members of the NGO would soon be smoked out
