The Nasarawa state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday directed workers in the state to shun calls by the state government for a staff audit.

The congress advised the workers not to attend any screening exercise called by any of the government's offices, including the Office of the Head of Service.

The directive of the workers' union was contained in a statement issued in Lafia by NLC chairman in the state, Mr Asoloko Maku and the Secretary, Mr Jacob Makama.

The statement was also signed by Mr Danladi Namo and Mohammed Umar, Chairman and Secretary, respectively, of Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state.

The labour leaders said that the workers would not be part of any staff audit until issues affecting them were addressed.

'No worker should respond to the call for data verification or biometric exercise until all issues affecting workers contained in the recently signed agreement was fully implemented,' the statement said.

The leaders regretted that the joint committee that was set up during the signing of the agreement between the congress and the government had not met.

According to the statement, since the joint committee has not met to discuss how to address workers' demands, members are advised to stay away from any screening for now.

They advised the government not to embark on any act that will bring confusion in the state adding that the union would protect the interest of its members always.
