First Lady Commends Airtel For Enrichment Programmes

Lagos, Nigeria; Tuesday 04, February, 2014: The wife of the executive Governor and first lady of Nassarawa State, Hajia Salamatu Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has lauded leading telecoms operator, Airtel Nigeria over its life-enriching initiatives.

The Governor's wife gave this commendation while speaking as the special guest at the presentation of Airtel Red Hot Promo grand prize to the winner Danjuma Ibrahim Yakubu and the commissioning of Airtel Express Shop on Thursday in Lafia, Nassarawa State.

According to the first lady, Airtel Nigeria has demonstrated commitment, concern, care and ability to add value, enrich lives and uplift the standard of living of people in the country.

She said, “On behalf of the people of this state, I want to commend Airtel Nigeria for creating positive impact on the lives and living standard of subscribers through the Red Hot Promo campaign. Indeed, the comapny has been a strategic partner on many fronts, especially in the pursuit of empowerment for the masses.”

Speaking further, Hajia Tanko Al-Makura noted that Airtel's empowerment programme is in sync with the State's pro-people projects targeted at total eradication of poverty in the state.

Her words, “ I am particularly interested in this because it shows we are thinking and working alike towards empowering Nigerians by creating wealth and providing conducive environment for them to thrive. Here in Nassarawa State, we are equally providing a unique platform via various pro-people projects that create wealth for the people as we push for the total eradication of of poverty in the state.”

The Nassarawa first lady also called on the telecoms operator to consider extending its CSR-based Adopt-A-School programme to the state. She stressed that Airtel had consistently demonstrated its being a socially responsible organisation through its people-oriented programmes and projects.

Meanwhile, Airtel Nigeria has assured on its continued commitment to empowering subscribers on the network through the provision of unequalled telecoms experience on data and voice services supported by various reward schemes.

The company's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Segun Ogunsanya represented by the Regional Operations Director, North, Olufemi Oyewole, gave this assurance in his welcome address at the prize presentation and shop commissioning ceremony.

His speech read, “Let me reiterate here and again that Airtel's commitment to its esteemed customers remains unshaken because we recognize that our customers are the reason we are in business, and because we understand this, we shall continue to deploy best in class intelligence and robust resources to reward them with solutions and prizes yet unmatched in the market place.”

The event was attended by some dignitaries notably the wife of the Deputy Governor of Nassarawa State, Asamau Damishi Luka, the Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Dr. Isa Mustapha Agwai represented by Alhaji Magaji Aliyu Agwai, the Dan-Isa of Lafia, Lafia LGA Chairman, Alhaji Alhassan Sheikh Abdullahi represented by Fatima Usman Baba, Hausa Nollywood Actor, Magaji Mijinyawa, Airtel Zonal Business Manager, North, Lynda Umeh and Airtel Business Partners.

Airtel drew the curtain on the Red Hot Recharge and Win promo, a consumer loyalty reward offer, after sixty days of doling out cash prizes, phones and free airtime worth over 250 million naira to customers.

The loyalty reward scheme, which saw scores of Nigerians realise their dream of financial empowerment, was designed as raffle draw, with participation open to all customers who simply needed to either recharge, purchase or renew data bundle subscriptions, meet their 5X target, subscribe to 'Talkmore' or join the Airtel network.

The nationwide promo produced a daily winner of one million naira for 60 days and a grand prize winner of ten million Naira. Other prizes included high-end smart phones to 100 winners per week, in addition to free talk time to over 5,000 customers. Also, for the entire 60 days of the promo all customers on the network got 5 free SMS and subscription services to choose from.
