2015: Awgu PDP council endorses Chime for Senate

By The Citizen

The executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Awgu Local Government Council Area of Enugu State has endorsed Governor Sullivan Chime as its preferred candidate for the 2015 Enugu West Senatorial election.

The committee members, who are also the statutory delegates to the Senatorial congress of the party, passed a resolution endorsing Chime yesterday in their meeting at Awgu.

The endorsement followed a motion moved by the member representing the Awgu North Constituency at the state House of Assembly, Sunny Udeh-Okoye that the governor be endorsed to represent the Senatorial zone at the Senate. Senator Ike Ekweremadu is currently representing them.

Among the reasons cited by the leaders for their action were the peace, security and total transformation Governor Chime had brought to the state since he assumed office in 2007.

They noted that Awgu in particular had continued to enjoy tremendous benefits from the  Chime administration, including the urbanization of Awgu, provision of good road networks, securing important appointments for Awgu people as well as the siting of the largest farm 'in the South-East' - the San Carlos Pineapple Farm- in the Awgu area.

'Among other thing, we are endorsing Governor Chime for the Senate because he ensured that Awgu got its fair share of democracy dividends in Enugu State, he ensured that Enugu became the pride of the South-East and that the South-East became the pride of Nigeria.

'As the reward for good work is more work, we are saying that he should go and represent the Enugu West Senatorial zone at the Senate in  2015,' they said.

The Awgu PDP executive also pledged its loyalty to President Goodluck Jonathan and whatever direction the governor may choose to go during the upcoming PDP congresses in the state.
