Embattled Rector Shows 'Proof' Of Qualifications

The Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Professor Yusuf Al-Hassan, has brought forward documents in support of his academic accomplishments.

A panel set up, recently, by the state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had said the Rector failed to produce the originals of his credentials. The panel questioned his academic records, saying there was no evidence to back his 30-year claims. According to its report, all the Rector could display were mere photocopies.

At a press conference in his office on Friday, however, Al-Hassan told reporters that the originals of his credentials were in the US when the visitation panel came calling.

'I later told my wife to send me the originals. For your information, my family is still in the States, talk less of my original credentials,' he said, adding that he returned to Kano, following request by the state governor that he (Al-Hassan) should assist the state's developmental initiative.

According to Al-Hassan, before he could put together the originals, the committee quickly packaged its report and submitted it to the governor.

Displaying the originals to reporters, he challenged anybody doubting their authenticity to verify at universities he attended in the United States.

'I feel that Kano, the governor, the polytechnic and I are all under attack,' Al-Hassan said.
