Shettima Rallies Support For Boko Haram Victims

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, January 31, (THEWILL) - A call has been made to corporate and private bodies as well as other charitable organisations to partner with the Borno State Government in assisting victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima,made the call while inaugurating an appeal fund for Boko Haram victims in Gashigar village of Mobbar Local Government Area of the state.

Shettima, who gave a personal donation of N10 million towards the realisation of the objectives of the Fund, said the gesture was in line with the Islamic religious tenets of rendering assistance to those in need.

A whopping N40 million was realised at the inauguration which saw members of the state House of Assembly collectively donating N6 million, while members of the state executive council gave out N2.

The chief of staff to the governor donated N2 million, while Hajiya Fati Kakena gave N1 million among other donors.

In his remark at the occasion, the governor promised that his administration would soon rebuild the Gashigar market burnt down by the insurgents.

He also assured that part of the money realised at the occasion would be used to assist the traders who lost their properties in the attack.

Shettima, who also visited the newly-established military batallion in Gashigar, commended the military for their gallant efforts, assuring that his government will not allow their efforts and sacrifices to go unrewarded.

He also assured them that the Borno Government will do everything possible to make them comfortable by providing them with an enabling environment to operate.

While making a donation of N2 million to the military, his Chief of Staff made a personal donation of N500,000 to the battalion.

Other relief materials donated at the occasion, included 100 bags of rice, 100 bags of beans, 100 bags of semovita, 100 of cassava and several cartons of maggi cubes.
