Kano To Train 2,200 Traditional Birth Attendants

Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State says his government will train 2,200 Traditional Birth Attendants on safe delivery to curb mother-to-child transmission of the HIV virus.

Kwankwaso said this during the celebration of World Cancer Day and distribution of free medical, surgical and drugs to hospitals in the state.

He explained that the training would enrich the skills of the traditional birth attendants on safe delivery of babies.

“We are very happy that there is tremendous increase in pregnant women attending pre- and post-natal clinics across the state.

“This is further encouraged by the free drugs programme introduced by the state government for pregnant women,” he said.

He said that the state government in collaboration with ALGON purchased over 98,000 self examination kits for women against breast cancer.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Kwankwaso also distributed five hilux pick-up vans to zonal Primary Health Care offices.

The governor gave out two 18-seater coaster bus to the School of Midwifery at Gezawa and School of Nursing at Madobi Local Governments.
