Nigeria Misuses Armed Forces To suppress human needs, says Diigbo

By Mosop Media

MOSOP President/Spokesman, Dr. Goodluck Diigbo said: “I don't expect the re-election or non-election of President Goodluck Jonathan to determine whether or not, Nigeria will break-up, unless his rights are tampered, then, that will be an issue.

Diigbo spoke on the state of affairs in Nigeria, while reacting to an interview by Police Commissioner Joseph Mbu of Rivers State granted to the media.

“The only reason Nigeria will break-up; will be failure to hold a Sovereign National Conference with an outcome that addresses all outstanding ethnic differences and tensions heightened by politicians. Or, provides acceptable procedures for dealing with outstanding issues, and not vetted by corrupt politicians. The SNC must be based on equality of ethnic representation, without which Ogoni will doubt its integrity,” Diigbo reaffirmed.

“If a cosmetic conference sits, Ogoni will transit to full fledge autonomous nation within the framework of the United Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We shall take over federal government property in lieu of debt owed to Ogoni and demand more recompense to address over 55 years of ecological damage caused Ogoni by petroleum operations,” he hinted.

On Mbu, he said: “I wrote to President Jonathan in 2010 reflecting most issues raised by CP Mbu. He remarked that Mbu is serving at a time dominated by the most insensitive politicians in Nigeria's political history; whose problems are compounded by suppression and lack of appreciation of human issues and needs.”

Excerpt: “I was in Rivers State recently, I noticed how some politicians vested with chief executive, legislative and ministerial powers, demonstrated that they are extraordinarily limited in their outlook. Nothing much goes on in the place except plotting against each other, gossip between them, stories of assassinations and aides like the moo of cows and characterized by steady rush for bloated road contracts. To protect themselves from the electorate of whom they are constantly afraid, they have resorted to misuse and abuse of the Nigeria Police Force, the Army and other state security agencies and agents. As the Commander-In-Chief, you have a responsibility to stop the misuse and abuse of the armed forces or state security forces that are used to intimidate, murder innocent citizens and violate indigenous rights and International Law.” End. February 11, 2010.

On Abe: “Within minutes, I got messages to issue a statement that Senator Magnus Abe has been shot. I said I needed more facts because the initial report exhibited conflicting logic. The medical doctor that examined him also shocked me by his incoherent briefing. On Ogoni Day of January 4, 2014, I told Ogoni people to work with Mbu for showing a brave faith in his official duties. Now it is clear that Mbu never tried to harm an Ogoni man, but Abe injuring his own conscience by abandoning the Ogoni cause to act like his other fellow exploited Ogoni political stooges.”

On MOSOP tactics: “I have been under pressure for nearly two years from hardliners in MOSOP to turn the Ogoni struggle into a violent movement. I do not see any other group opposed to Ogoni agenda as the ill-informed Ogonis. So violence means allowing Ogonis to destroy their fellow Ogonis. My vow is the Ogoni self-government declared on August 2, 2012 remains permanent. This is the sticking point for up or down movement.
