The National Executive Committee, NEC, of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) moments ago elected a former governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu, as the party's new national chairman.

The meeting, which had President Goodluck Jonathan in attendance, was presided by deputy national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.

He quoted section 47 (6) of the party's constitution which empowers NEC to elect an official to fill the void created by the resignation of an elected official.

Interestingly, the motion for Mu'azu's nomination was moved by his successor, Governor Isa Yuguda. The motion was seconded by Senate Leader Ndoma Egba.
