Importance Of Fish Farming Production Emphasized
As part of his effort to boost fish production in Nigeria, a-renowned Aqua-culturist and Entrepreneur, Mr. Emeka Ilohalu, Director of Teemartins Group recently organized a-free seminar on fish farming in his country-home, Adazi-Nnukwu, Anaocha council area, Anambra state.
During the practical and theoretically oriented workshop held at Adazi-Nnukwu town hall amidst old and young participants, Mr. Ilohalu who doubles as a resource person explained that the seminar was aimed at educating Nigerians on the effective and cheapest means of venturing into fish farming so as to increase it productivity and availability within and outside the country all year round.
According to him, agro-allied industry is a lucrative venture, profitable, source of balanced-diet and tourist attraction, and could reduce poverty, unemployment and kwashiorkor to a halt while empowering many Nigerians to be self-reliant and employer of labours.
The Teemartins boss who said that aquaculture will also attract investors to the community, however, stressed that rearing fish requires proper attention, time investment, patience and research even as he advised his community to judiciously utilize the wealth of knowledge garnered during the free seminar rather to roam about the streets seeking for non-existing jobs or purchasing fish from whom they ought to sold to.
While projecting the practical aspect of the training through laptop computer, he further told his people that they had formed a cooperative society, Adazi-Nnukwu Aquaculture Multipurpose Cooperative, geared towards presenting loans to indigenous members.
He later leased rubber butters (fish ponds) and fingerings to participants in affordable price pledging to assist them in setting-up and managing the firm free from any charges.
Reacting to the kind gesture, some participants, Barr. Matthew Muoto and Mrs. Martha Ofoedu extolled the resource person vowing to enforce what they have learnt into action immediately even as they reiterated the needs for Nigerians to invest more on mechanized farming, food and fish production.
