Ogoni Leaders Condemn Police Attack On Senator Abe, Seek CP Mbu's Removal

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, January 14, (THEWILL) - The Ogoni Leaders of Thought have condemned Sunday's brutal attack on Senator Magnus Abe and others by men of the River State Police Command at a political rally in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The leaders in a statement issued at the end of an emergency meeting held Tuesday morning and facilitated by Kagote, said the incident  provokes 'a bitter reminder of the events of our recent past that led to the killing of our first generation leaders by the Nigerian State.

Peter Medee (KSC) Tai; and  Hon.
Marcus Nle Eji, Eleme, for and on behalf of Ogoni Leaders of Thought, called for the redeployment of Commissioner of Police Joseph Mbu, warning that the Ogoni people will not stand by and watch a repeat of such dastardly actions that threaten the life of an Ogoni person.

The statement read: 'The Ogoni leaders of thought held an emergency meeting early this morning in view of the incident that occurred on Sunday 12th January, 2014 during which one of their sons, Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe,  narrowly escaped assassination by the Nigerian Police and wish to state as follows: 'That the entire Ogoni nationality condemn in very strong terms the assassination attempt on the life of our son, Distinguished Senator Magnus Abe.

'That this event provokes a bitter reminder of the events of our recent past that led to the killing of our first generation leaders by the Nigerian State.

'That Ogoni people will not stand by and watch a repeat of such dastardly actions that threaten the life of an Ogoni person.

' We remind the Nigerian nation and indeed the wider world that the occupation of the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by a Niger Deltan, is the product of the Ogoni struggle and blood, for which we have no benefit, not even the implementation of the UNEP report on Ogoniland.

'We join the call by the National Assembly and other well meaning Nigerians to condemn the persistent acts of impunity perpetrated by the Nigerian Police in Rivers state, and ask for the immediate removal of CP Mbu Joseph Mbu from the State.

In the event of continued acts of impunity, the Ogoni people will not hesitate to demand the vacation of the Nigerian Police from its territory.

'We demand an immediate investigation into the events leading to the near assassination of Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe.

' It is important to bring to the attention of allies of acts of impunity in Rivers State that since they cannot guarantee our safety in other territories of the State, henceforth all such persons remain persona non-grata in Ogoni territory.
