Ekiti Airport Project Will Become A Reality Under PDP Govt - Adeyeye

By Prince Adedayo Adeyeye

Afenifere Chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has promised that the Airport project in the State would become a reality under the PDP government that would take over from the present All Progressives Congress (APC) government this year.

Adeyeye, who berated the Kayode Fayemi-led government for its opposition to the airport project said he was shocked when he heard the State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Eniola Ajayi saying on Channels TV yesterday, that the government had no plan for Airport in Ekiti since the Federal Government has one in Akure which is close to Ekiti.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti today, by the Director General of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), Hon. Bisi Kolawole, the governorship aspirant said "it is obvious that Fayemi and his government hate Ekiti and its people. If not, why would a government be opposing a project freely offered Ekiti by the Federal Government?"

Adeyeye, who berated Fayemi over his inconsistency on the airport project, described his open complaints on the project during President Jonathan's visit to Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) late last year as hypocritical and self-serving.

"When Fayemi became governor, he said that the airport was not necessary and went on to describe it as a white elephant project. But when President Jonathan visited Ekiti State late last year, Fayemi in his hypocritical self, complained publicly about the non take-off of the project. Yesterday, the State Commissioner for Environment said on Channels TV that government had no plan for Airport in Ekiti since the Federal Government has one in Akure which is close to Ekiti.

"From the three conflicting statements above, it is clear that Fayemi is only frustrating the project for political reasons and Ekiti people should be sure that the airport project will become a reality when PDP takes over the government on October 16, this year," Adeyeye said.

Speaking further on the airport project, Adeyeye said; "The Federal Government had taken firm and decisive steps to commence the construction of the airport.

"Before Fayemi became governor, the followings had been done towards the actualisation of the projects; terrain flight check for site selection, site approval obtained from the Ministry of Aviation, perimeter land survey, meteorological data otherwise (i.e. Wind-Rose obtained from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency

(NIMET), form AC-001 collected for completion and submission to Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), guidance materials on the procedures to be followed for development and certification of airport and related technical and regulatory requirements to be met already collected for necessary assessment; and materials needs for Runway orientation and establishment of Obstacle Limitation Surfaces was virtually concluded.

"With all the above already done and budgetary provision made for the project in the federal budget, Ekiti would have by now been boasting of an Airport, be it a Cargo or a general purpose Airport if Fayemi had giving the project the required nudge.

"However, our promise to Ekiti people is that it is not too late because by the grace of God, with Adeyeye as the State Governor, the airport project will become a reality."
