APC To Boycott Anambra LG Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) will not participate in the Anambra local government elections, the party's candidate in the November 16, 2013 governorship election, Senator Chris Ngige, has stated.

Ngige said in Awka yesterday, after a meeting with stakeholders and APC aspirants in the forthcoming elections, that the decision was taken after reviewing the last gubernatorial election, which was characterised by irregularities and was inconclusive.

Ngige who commended the people for their steadfastness and patience, said few days to the election, voters' register had not been given to parties, while the last voters' register used to conduct the gubernatorial election has not been reviewed.

He explained that the APC would insist on an authentic voters' register before it could consider reviewing its decision to boycott the council polls.

A media consultant to Ngige, Clementina Olomu, accused the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), of desperation to win the council polls.

He said: "There are desperate moves by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in collaboration with INEC to ensure that APC is completely excluded from all elective positions in the state," a move she added is "against the will of the people."

According to her, the acting chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC ), Mr. Sylvester Okonkwo, need not call on all political parties to submit the list of candidates and their forms to the commission when issues that have more significant effect on the credibility of the elections are still being questioned.
