The All Progressive Congress (APC) Sokoto state chapter, Saturday disowned Governor Aliyu Wamakko from the party, saying he is not recognised as a leader of the APC in the state.

It also called on the national leadership of the APC to investigate the activities of former Speaker of House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari, accusing him of formenting crisis in Sokoto.

Addressing journalists at the NUJ Press Centre in Sokoto, APC Chieftain, Nasiru Kalambaina, said the leadership of the legacy parties comprising the defunct ANPP, CPC and ACN that merged to form APC, did not recognise any person other than the former governor Attahiru Bafarawa as its leader in the state.

“We, the leadership and followership of the legacy parties of CPC, ANPP, ACN that merged to form APC in Sokoto, do not know or recognise any person other than Bafarawa as the leader of our party. So, we are solidly behind Bafarawa in taking any legal position to protect the sanctity of our party including its constitution,” he said.

Kalambaina pointed out that the national leadership of the APC directed the state chapter to establish a state Caretaker Committee comprising five members, adding that it was based on the foregoing that Abubakar Sanyinna was chosen as the caretaker chairman and Abbas Gandi as Secretary.

He wondered why Governor Aliyu Wamakko, who recently decamped to the APC, could claim to be the party's leader in the state.

“It is surprising to us how a decampee could arrogate to himself the power of owning the APC in Sokoto, including issuing directives concerning the party. How did they come to own the APC and who conferred on them this proprietorship?” Kalamaina queried.
