There was panic at the MurtalaMuhammedAirport, Lagos, on Sunday as an Aero Contractors aircraft, conveying 104 passengers from Abuja lost one of its tyres while landing at the airport.

Although no casualty was recorded, it was learnt that the Boeing 737-500 aircraft marked 5N-BLC, lost pressure in one of its tyres which led to an abrupt halt of the plane at a suitable position by the pilot.

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nasir El-rufai, who was onboard the flight during the incidence, stated that many passengers panicked when they noticed that their aircraft had lost a tyre.

Narrating what happened in the aircraft's cabin via his Twitter handle, El-rufai said, 'Upon landing in Lagos, our Aero aircraft lost a tyre. The pilot did a great job of breaking to a halt suitably. My phones flew under the seats.

'It was amusing hearing shots of Allah Akbar and Jesus, Jesu while the dutiful captain was trying to slow the plane down to a safe location.'

According to him, some travellers were however not frightened, adding that 'One of the passengers joked that he knew nothing would happen to us as I was on board. Nice of him, but Allah decides our fate in His way.'

Elrufai commended the pilot of the aircraft and his crew.

He said, 'The Aero pilot was good; the cabin staff calm and professional in the midst of the mild drama and little panic by a few passengers. We thank God.'
