Organizers of illegal football competitions in Anambra warned

The Anambra Football Association (ASFA) on Tuesday warned the organisers of illegal competition in the state to stop forthwith or risk disciplinary actions.

The Vice Chairman of the association, Jude Obikwelu said in Awka football administration anywhere in the world is done by association.

He said it was the association that set standards by providing the rules and regulations.

Obikwelu then condemned corporate bodies, individuals and communities who organise competitions without the approval of ASFA.

The vice chairman also warned its affiliate coaches, referees, commissioners and players not to participate in such unapproved competitions.

“Any unregistered referee but who acted in that capacity with FIFA uniforms will be arrested and charged with impersonation,'' Obikwelu said.

“In as much as we encourage the game, we cannot compromise established standards of the game.

“So, we out rightly condemn the organisation of competition without the involvement of ASFA, such tournaments are illegal.

“Our members will not take part in them and any non registered official in FIFA outfit will be arrested and charged with impersonation.

“We will not allow anyone running a parallel association with us,'' Obikwelu said.

He described the outgoing year as a great success in Anambra football, saying the association had a good number of competitions during which talents were discovered.
