Shettima briefs Jonathan on Boko Haram attack at Bama

The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima today briefed President Goodluck Jonathan on the pre-dawn fierce attack on Mohammed Kur Barracks, Bama by terrorists sect, Boko Haram, sacking the military barrack there, and killing troops and their families in what has been described as  'sad day'.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, had in a statement said over 20 vehicles transporting suspected terrorists who carried out an attack on a military formation in the state were destroyed.

Olukolade had earlier said the vehicles destroyed were the ones used during the attack and were sited through air surveillance as the terrorists made efforts to cross the borders back to their haven in Cameroun.

The town has witnessed multiple bloodshed this year.

Shettima told State House correspondents  that about two or three women were kidnapped and luckily they escaped, denying reports that the Boko Haram were still holding unto women and kids.

On allegation that the barrack has been deserted, the Governor said, “is not true. I am the man on ground and I can tell you authoritatively what is happening.

“Women and children normally during crisis are moved to safer locations but the soldiers are on ground, they are right now in Bama and are doing their job very well”.

On the fact that the end to crisis rocking the state seems not in sight, he said, “the federal government is doing its best. I’m just here to brief Mr. President of what transpired in Bama, I believe that very soon this issue will be frontally addressed and it will be a thing of the past”.

A state of emergency is currently on in Borno State as well as Adamawa and Yobe as the military tries to dislodge the outlawed Boko Haram.
