Honeywell Unveils 10bn flour mills, announces plan for expansion

Lagos (Nigeria) December 5, 2013: Honeywell Flour Mills Plc, Nigeria's leading manufacturer of flour and a range of flour-based products has unveiled its multi billion naira world class flour mills in Lagos. Speaking to journalists during the media facility tour organised by Honeywell Flour Mills Plc in Lagos on December 3, 2013, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Honeywell Flour Mills, Mr. Babatunde Odunayo, said the project which gulped around N10 billion was built to meet the quality standard for which Honeywell Flour Mills Plc is renowned.

Mr. Odunayo stated that investment in expanding the flour mills was proof of Honeywell Flour Mills Plc commitment to ensure that it consistently produces and delivers top quality flour and a range of flour based products for the satisfaction of its valued customers. He said that proof of the company's commitment is reflected in the award of NIS 9001:2000, the first to be awarded to a flour mill in Nigeria as well as the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) for product quality from Standards Organisation of Nigeria.

The CEO of Honeywell Flour Mills Plc also added that the mills' automated warehouse which has a capacity to hold about 100,000 bags of 50kg flour is the only one of its kind in Sub Saharan Africa. Speaking further on the facility, Mr. Odunayo said 'The flour mills currently operate on installed capacity of 2,610 metric tonnes per day. It also has a wheat storage capacity of about 42,500 metric tonnes with a monthly usage of about 40,000 metric tonnes. The state-of-art facility has upgraded our production capacity by 63 percent'.

Speaking on the media facility visit, Mr. Odunayo said 'This is to show Nigerians what this indigenous company has been able to achieve'. He stated that the new equipment which was supplied and installed by Bulher AG of Switzerland would guarantee operational efficiency and consistent production of top quality products.

Mr. Odunayo disclosed plans by Honeywell Flour Mills Plc to build a 66-hectare Flour-gate Estate in Ogun State which will house new factories for the production flour and pasta. He said the project is part of the company's expansion strategy.

Also speaking during the event, Mr. Calvin Grieder, CEO of Buhler AG, Switzerland, the company which built the mills said the company was proud to be associated with Honeywell Flour Mills Plc. He said that consumers of Honeywell products should be proud of the new equipment installed. According to him. 'It takes courage to invest in state-of-the-art facility such as this because it is not for quick returns on investment but for quality'.

Mr Grieder commended Honeywell Flour Mills Plc for placing a high premium on product quality. He described HFMP as a Nigerian company that operates with the best international standard

It will be recalled that Honeywell Flour Mills Plc had in September 2013 held its 4th Annual General Meeting during which the company declared a profit after tax of N2.8bn.
