Red card for Senator Lady Eme Ufot EKaette

Sir:

The Akwa Ibom PDP deputy Chairman has indicated his interest for the Senate come 2011. A Bishop of Brother of the Cross & State (OOO religious sect), Sam Akpan was formerly Special Adviser to Governor Godswill Akpabio and the coordinator of the much talked about Akwa Ibom Patriotic Front (AKPF). Incidentally, almost everybody elected or appointed to Akwa Ibom government positions or the State PDP executive seats is either a member or directed to be a member of the AKPF. That is why most people say that it is AKPF and not PDP that is ruling the State.

But one interesting thing as it unveils is the quest of Bishop Akpan to unseat the incumbent Senator representing the Eket Senatorial Zone, Senator Eme Ekaette, the wife of Minister of Niger Delta Matters. It is said that Akpan's choice would be a walkover when placed side by side with the incumbent who is believed to be nursing the ambition of a second term. With Governor Akpabio supporting Bishop Akpan who had remained a committed ally of his and who had held forth strongly the AKPF which was formed by the governor, Lady Eme is a goner.

One of the things that is against Lady Ekaette remains the fact that those she is representing believe that she has not done well in the Senate; she only sponsored a Bill on 'women dress-code' and it failed like pack of cards. She assumed the present slot because her husband was Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) - of Obasanjo regime for eight years. People now ask to know whether the Ekaettes are the only qualified persons for government positions (referring to Senate and Ministerial positions) among many from the zone.
