Tension in Anambra as candidates engage last minute mobilisation

The major contenders in tomorrow's election were busy analyzing reports from their field agents, even as tension continued to mount on what would likely be the outcome of the election.

It was gathered that the main issue on the table was financial mobilization for the candidates' trusted agents who are expected to pay other agents that would man the polling booths.

Most banks in the state were jam-packed yesterday as vehicles of politicians were seen withdrawing large sums of money.

At the time of filing report, the three major contenders - Tony Nwoye of PDP, Willie Obiano of APGA and Chris Ngige of APC were still in Awka and sources close to them said they would leave for their respective villages later in the day where they are expected to cast their votes.

Willie Obiano's abode at Trig Point close to the Governor's Lodge was full of activities as people from the various communities and constituencies were trouping in and out. The candidate himself could not be sighted as he was said to be hosting one meeting after the other.

At Olde English, the palatial hotel owned by Senator Chris Ngige, notable allies of the former governor were there directing affairs. The governor of Osun State, Alhaji Rauf Aregbosola arrived the state in the afternoonFriday and he was locked in a meeting with the APC candidate.

Also, Chief Tony Nwoye of PDP has been holding meetings at the Cosmilla Hotels which had of late become his base. He is expected to leave for his town, Nsugbe in Anambra East local government area later today.

In the meantime, the internet war raged throughout Friday with text messages flying in the air to undermine some of the candidate.

For instance, one of the messages said a certain candidate had been disqualified by INEC for allegedly committing electoral offences, and shortly after the message was received, another one came that another one had been dropped by his party in favour of another candidate.
