The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says it's now better off with the defection of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to the All Progressives Congress, APC, stressing that all this while, he has constituted a cog in the wheel of progress of the party.

The party disclosed this while reacting to Amaechi's boasting that the PDP was getting jittery over his intention to leave the party for the APC.

Rather than regret, the party in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on media to the State Chairman, Jerry Needam said Gov Amaechi's last minute decision to quit the PDP, having been suspended and stripped of the state party leadership, is the best thing that can happen to any group desirous of true democracy and freedom for their people.

For the entire period Gov Chibuike held sway as the leader of the PDP in the state, it has been one controversy to the other as though we are cursed with no appreciable impact on the people despite the huge resources that accrue to the state every month, the statement further noted.

The party, while wishing Amaechi well in his new party, said it's high time Amaechi demonstrated his claimed magic wand he has always boasted of during elections and see if he will not be defeated even in his bedroom.

“It's a pity Amaechi has chosen to play the proverbial ingrate who erroneously thought that his detractors were all dead and, or had become his friends as he now sees the APC leaders and went on to kill his spiritual father only to realize when it was too late that he had shot himself in the leg and was subsequently trapped by his remaining enemies.

Amaechi should hide his head in shame having broken the unwholesome record of being the first serving Governor to be pursued out of a ruling party to an opposition party. We therefore invite Rivers people to monitor more than ever, before he uses our funds to run APC.

We pray to see what becomes of him and the APC as we go for subsequent elections in the state to determine who own the land”, the PDP declared.

The party therefore urges all Rivers people to join it in celebrating the new air of freedom facilitated by the defection of Gov Amaechi to the APC, reassuring of better days ahead as true leaders of the state have successfully stopped the state from total collapse brought about by Amaechi's dictatorial tendencies.
