ANAMBRA: EXAMPLE OF PDP’s BRAND OF DEMOCRACY

By Odimegwu Onwumere

Nobody answers a dog's name. Against that backdrop, one man said that when he knew that his mother was going to die was when he called his dog and his mother answered. He called again to ascertain his former disappointment, yet, he was disappointed.

The PDP primaries for the February 6, 2010 Anambra State gubernatorial election has not only exposed the PDP in the state as a party bent on mischief, but has gone far to tell the world the level of odious democracy Nigerians are enduring in the hand of the ruling PDP. The PDP primaries in that state has made a point which the PDP will never deny again as a party known as not only the self-acclaimed party in Africa, but also the largest rigging party in the world.

How gluttonous the PDP is. The other day, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor was quoted saying that their PDP would rule Nigeria for 60years. While the man who once said that telephone is not meant for the poor, now the president of their Senate, Mr. David Mark, was calling for unopposed ticket for his men in the House of the Senate for 2011. While in Anambra, just for the plum job of the state's Governor come 2010, their PDP marshaled out over 40 able-boded Ndi-Anambra to lock head in the macabre dance of shame for their PDP primaries.

Much as that was good for their PDP, though no one expected any good result than the news that pilfered every where that the primaries were marred by heavy thuggery, violence undemocratic ethos. Social democrats knew that their PDP will never be ashamed for this show of shame because the elections they are proud of are the once they rigged and won.

PDP will never be proud of winning an election on a clean bill in Nigeria . The one that made most Nigerians who are social democrats wept was the Ekiti State re-run where the madam of over seventy years of age was made to speak in tongue: of resigning and not resigning. Later, PDP awarded the election to Mr. Segun Oni against Dr. Kayode Fayemi; the later being the people's expectation who was the action of the Action Congress [AC] in that state.

No one would want to take Nigeria backward, except goons. But it's always important to repeat history.

The Supreme Court also awarded their PDP their President as the rightful winner of the 2007 presidential election as against people's choice in the person of the indomitable Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, one time Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The aftermath of that judgment was witnessed with hues and cries in Nigeria. And many keen political observers characterized it by judiciary mishap, not accident. Yet, their PDP didn't give a hoot to the protests of the populace, but deployed security men in all the strategically important areas across the federation to (kill) and arrest any body that feels he was dogged to contest the Supreme Court judgment. Unlike Kenyans, who rather took to bestiality, when Mwai Kibaki rigged election against Raila Odinga, Nigerians preferred to exhibit a humiliated-maturity, and business continued, without PDP stopping their rigging tactic, that has always become a scope in the wheel of happiness of Nigerians.

The Anambra PDP- primaries show of shame has not only proven that their PDP is not capable and qualified to rule Nigeria, but have proved that their PDP is a bunch of educated Mafias, who can hide under the influence of Doctorate Degree Holders and Lecturers to perpetrate masses electoral massacre. Who could believe that their Prof. Chima Soludo, the former Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN] Governor could be fingered for electoral malpractices in the Anambra PDP primaries? Instead of the arsenal of love and peace, PDP deployed arsenal of gun shots and masters in snatching ballot boxes. If PDP can exhibit this heinous manner among themselves to win in a primary, what do Nigerians think had happened to other parties in the previous election s in Nigeria?

PDP has turned democracy in Nigeria to government of the PDP, for the PDP and for the PDP. Nigerians are not even talking about the evil inducement by their PDP of luring other party members to decamp for the PDP. It was as a result of this that the Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yygnda, master-minded the impeachment of his former Deputy, Mohammed Gardi; for being stoical to defect with him from the ANPP they were to the PDP.

As far as the democractic brand of the PDP is played in Nigeria, there is bound to be little headway in progress in Nigeria. Today, David Mark is calling for the head of the corrupt corruption fighting czar for agitating a psychiatric test for politicians. If Nigerians has ever said evil of Late Chuba Okadigbo, Late Evan(s) Enwerem and Pius Anyim as senate Presidents, one wonders what they would say of David Alichenu Bonaventure Mark for the next-of-kin senate he is running as senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

PDP will never stop causing ripples in Nigeria because, according to Mr.Wole Soyinka, it is a “Nest of killers”. Yet, today, no “thanks” to God that that art of killing known under the PDP president Olusegun Obasanjo (1999-2007) has shifted to killing of democracy in Nigeria to become Unitarian.

Obasanjo was a man who was released from the prison to become president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but only succeeded in imprisoning Nigerians by coercing them to call him “Baba”. Baba of democratic norms?

Nigerians perhaps, didn't understand what the call by Ogbulafor that PDP will rule Nigeria for 60 years meant. 60 years, to PDP, means 60years of power outage, dilapidated roads and infrastructure, dead medical centres, dead education system, dead political system, dead socio-economical system etc. One wonders what Nigeria would have been if their PDP-ruling government has channeled its “do-or-die” energy to better the above mentioned. Ahoy!
