Crescent Varsity Students Urged on 70% Class Attendance

.....As Traditional Ruler Bags Diploma in Law

By Idris Katib

Students of Crescent University, Abeokuta, have been urged to use the opportunity offered by the university to be punctual (for lectures) and morally upright. Speaking at an interactive forum organized for the part-time degree students, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Gbajabiamila cited one of the already graduated traditional rulers, HRH, Oba of Akinale in Ogun State, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye who recently bagged diploma in law as a model example.

He said Oba Ogunleye defied his chiefs, who had earlier discouraged him to come to Crescent University to study law which he had dreamt to study since his childhood. Oba Ogunleye, a consummate public relations guru and an ace journalist, had replied his chiefs that knowledge has no barrier in terms of age or social status.

Describing the students as the lucky ones, Prof. Gbajabiamila emphasized that there were limited spaces for the part-time students as compared with the full-time students, optimistic that the university would welcome those who wished to proceed on their post graduate studies in the university after completion of their first degree.

Earlier, highlighting the university rules and regulations, the Registrar, Barr. Zakariyya Ajibola quoted verbatim from Crescent University handbook that " the university is out to assist in closing the widening gap between attainable potential student population and limited space in Nigerian educational system, hoping to produce the kind of graduates that will fit into current economic agenda of the nation ".

He said for any student to partake in a semester examination, such should have attended not less than 70% lectures, adding that any examination malpractice would attract stiff penalty as in the provision of the university law.

On whether the part-time programme of the university was accredited, he said students should visit the National Universities Commission's website, noting that the Proprietor, Judge Bola Ajibola would not condone any illegality whatsoever.
