The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has again raised alarm over the apparent collapse of the State Healthcare Service delivery particularly the Free Medical Care Programme.

Consequently, the party has challenged the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Commissioner of Health, Dr Sampson Parker to tell Rivers people what is happening to the sector and the extent to which the Amaechi-led government is funding the Free Medical Care Programme which it described as a deceit.

A statement by the Special Adviser, Media to the state chairman of PDP, Jerry Needam while expressing shock over non-funding of Health Institutions in the state said no hospital or health centre in the State has been refunded the cost of treatment of patients under the free medical scheme in almost one year.

According to Needam, since hospitals and health centres run a revolving programme and the state government is not paying its bill under the programme, what is implied is that the system is dead.

He said the present administration has derailed from the PDP initiated free medical care programme and has focused its attention on frivolous spending and hosting of friends and allies of Gov Amaechi in President Goodluck Jonathan must go project.
