Gov Obi takes soccer to markets in Anambra

Traders in Anambra are set to take time off their businesses to compete in the maiden Gov. Peter Obi Traders Cup competition, a top government official has said.

The competition is expected to commence on Oct.  26.

Edozie Aroh, the Anambra Commissioner for Youths and Sports said in Awka on Friday that the Traders Cup was a follow up to the Unity Cup for communities, recently concluded in the state.

The commissioner noted abundant talents existed among traders in the various markets in the state, stressing that the talented ones among them would be given a chance to be part of the building of a state football team planned by Government.

“We are taking the talent hunt to the markets in the state; most of them have been yearning for such opportunity, so that they can show off their talents.

“All the markets in Onitsha, Ogbaru, Nkpor, Ekwuluobia,  Ihiala, Nnewi  and Otuocha  will feature teams for  the competition.

“They will be part of building of a state team.

“It is also as part of the plans by the administration to develop various sporting activities in the state,' he said.

The most successful team in the competition will receive star prize N1 million in addition to other incentives.
