Newton Aduaka, candidate for the best feature-length film at the 10th FCAT / The multi-awarded Nigerian filmmaker will be presenting his feature length film One man's show (2012), Critics Award in FESPACO 2013
CORDOBA, Spain, October 9, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The African Film Festival of Cordoba-FCAT returns from the 11th to the 19th of October in order to celebrate its 10th anniversary. For one week, the festival will screen 70 films made in 32 different countries. Nigerian filmmaker Newton Aduaka will be once again attending this festival, and participating during the Q&A of his film One man's show (2012) on Thursday 17th at Góngora Theatre, as well as in the 'Film Appetizers' on Friday 18th at 1pm, and a first screening on Sunday 13th at 5pm at Góngora Theatre.
One man's show (2012) is the latest film by this celebrated young director, who is also worldwide famous for his public speech, such is TED, where his autobiography as an artist is a constant reference. Silver Bear in Berlin, 2 first awards in FESPACO, one for Ezra(2007), the first film to give an African perspective on the disturbing phenomenon of the abduction of child soldiers into Africa's civil wars, FCAT Cordoba will be pleased again to count not just on the screening of this film, but on the presence of the filmmaker. Born in Biafra, in Ogidi (Nigeria) in 1996, he moved to Lagos with his family in 1970, and to London in 1995, where he would later study and the London Film School and found the Granite Film Works.
One man's show (2012) successfully achieves a reflection on art through a reflection on the life of an actor, and hence on what is it like to be an artist and a person at the same time, who has a particular relation with love and with his son. The aesthetics of the film mirror the reflexive character of the narrative, with a camera that either moves quite abruptly or is fix but with an asymmetrical frame, where the focus is on significant objects and spaces rather than on the characters themselves. The use of sound is also rather reflexive, with a resounding silence and classic music.
Winner already of the Critics Award in the 23rd edition of FESPACO 2013, and co-produced also by Eric Idriss Kanago, who attended last year's edition in representation of the winner film of the festival, Tey (Alain Gomis, 2012, Senegal), which has just released the film commercially in USA, One Man's Show emerges as a solid candidate for the Griot for the Best Feature Length Film.
FCAT Cordoba, organised by the NGOD Al Tarab with the sponsorship of the City Council of Cordoba, Magtel Corp. and Instituto Halal, will screen during one week 70 films from or on Africa made by 32 different countries. This will be completed by a series of activities implying all audiences and professionals, spread across the city.
