The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called on the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi not to drag the Supreme Court into politics by misinterpreting it's decision on matters before it.

According to the party, Amaechi's interpretation and information on the October 3 decision of the Supreme Court concerning the governorship of Rivers State does not reflect the true position of the highest Court in the land.

"Governor Amaechi and his overzealous supporters have deliberately twisted the Supreme Court's ruling on the various applications before it in the Rivers State matter to suit them and thereby misinformed their innocent supporters and the unsuspecting public" the party said.

'Yesterday, in addition to deciding to hear the case expeditiously, the Supreme Court gave 2 basic orders. It consolidated the appeals involving Governor Amaechi, Sir Celestine Omehia, the PDP and INEC and also assumed jurisdiction as a court of first instance. By this, there is no more remittance of the case to the Court of Appeal and it is for that reason that the Supreme Court ordered the Court of Appeal to transmit all processes filed in the case to it' PDP explained.

The Party further notes that what the Court has done was to enable it entertain the matter as one and to allow Sir Celestine Omehia, who is an interested party in the issue, joined in the matter brought before it, to stop Amaechi's delay tactics.

PDP says it is worried by the spurious misrepresentation of facts by Amaechi, his commissioners and aides aimed at deceiving the people of the State, who may not have access to true information regarding the matter.

The Party's statement issued by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser, Media to the State Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah, warns Governor Amaechi who is supposed to accurately explain the decision of the Supreme Court but have preferred the side of deceit to desist forthwith as doing so threatens and causes doubt on the credibility and dignity of the Supreme Court.

'Decision of the apex Court should not be misinterpreted or be dragged into politics. The way the Governor and his allies have divided the State and the Party should not be used on the Supreme Court,' the party warns.

The Party also views the statement credited to the Governor while reacting to the Supreme Court ruling yesterday that, no Court and no one can remove him from office till the end of his tenure, as an affront on the Court.

The PDP feels that it appears Governor Amaechi's desperation to remain in power has no limit and should be cautious of his statements and actions, particularly on matters before the apex court in the land.

'The people deserve to know the true decision of the court in the matter and such decision of the Court ought to be obeyed and respected. Misrepresenting it to the public does not portray anyone as been subject to its decisions,' the PDP believes.
