The Rivers state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has described the All Progressives Congress' response on Amaechi's claim of being denied access to the Government House, Port Harcourt by the Police as a justification of its funding by the Rivers State Governor.

The Party accused Amaechi of wasting billions of naira belonging to Rivers people on the formation, maintenance and funding of the opposition party's activities in his quest to secure a platform to actualize his 2015 political ambition.

In a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to the State Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah, the party said it is a disgrace to our political system that the APC does not have a clear and progressive party manifesto and has proved itself as losing focus on major political events in the country as it has reduced itself to a weapon of political war for Amaechi.

'From inception, the All Progressives Congress has never hidden its identity and means of subsistence. It is not a hidden fact that the party is feeding on Rivers State resources made available to it by Governor Amaechi who has exhibited prodigality in governance and in the management of the state resources.

'The statement credited to the Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in respect of the claim by Amaechi of being stopped by the Police from entering Government House is a product and manifestation of financial relationship between the governor and the opposition party,' the PDP noted.

The party emphasized that it is not surprising that APC, which has turned its machineries to be Amaechi spokesman is attacking the Police for doing its legitimate duty, stressing that the entire plan of action by the party is founded on blackmail and destruction of the Jonathan's administration.

While calling on Rivers people and Nigerians not to take the APC's statement seriously, the PDP urges the opposition party to function with some level of civility and strive to provide a true, credible and independent platform for the opposition.

The Party also called on Amaechi to stop squandering Rivers resources, pursing his ambition and blackmailing the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the Rivers State Police Command, and leaders of the PDP, stressing that his claim on the actions of the Police is frivolous and unfounded.
