Govt mulls shift to deadline on new driver's licence, number plate exercise

By The Citizen

Indications emerged yesterday that the current Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) new driver's licence and number plate registration exercise may be extended at the end of month, which is the deadline date.

It was learnt that a high powered discussion is already ongoing between key stakeholders in the transport sector with the Federal Government, including the FRSC for the date to be shifted by some few months to correct the abnormalities being encountered at the various capturing centres in the country, mostly in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Specifically, the shortage of capturing machines coupled with infrastructure at the centres have been the major challenges causing the postponement, including systemic failures being witnessed at the centres.

It was also gathered that the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive Officer of FRSC, Osita Chidoka, is looking into the postponement date but hinted that the date for the extension is what is being look into by the government. - Guardian.
