We Have No Hands In The Proposed National Summit At Uyo

By Nigerian National Summit group (NNSG)

The Nigerian National Summit group (NNSG) wishes t bring to the notice of all Nigerians that the proposed NationalPolitical Summit scheduled to take place at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State is being organized by a distinct body, Project Nigeria which is led by Prof. Ben Nwabueze and not in any way by the NNSG, This clarification has become very imperative because of the numerous inquiries and clarification sought by discerning Nigerians who have, over the years rightly associated the Nigerian National Summit Group with the task of organizing genuine dialogue to address the myriad of problems facing Nigeria through national conference.

It would be recalled that Prof. Ben Nwabueze, a respected elder statesman and leader of the patriots, was one of the co-conveners of the inaugural National Summit Group meeting in Lagos in February, 2012. It is worthy to state that the meeting was well attended, drawing representations from all sections of the country. However, midway into the meeting, our elder statesman Prof. Ben Nwabueze whose main objective was to persuade participants to endorse the concept of SOVEREIGN NATIONAL CONFERENCE, which obviously was not the preferred mode of dialogue by majority of participants, staged a walk-out. We therefore wonder whether the proposed national political summit at Uyo would satisfy the yearning for a sovereign national conference, the subsumed purpose for which Project Nigeria was formed.

We wish to inform all Nigerians that the Nigerian National Summit Group since the inauguration of the National Working Committee has been working assiduously for the convocation of an all-inclusive national conference, drawing participants from the grass-root, to dialogue on the future of our country with a view to strengthening the bonds of unity. We believe that our strength as a nation, as diverse and multiethnic as could be, rests squarely on our common resolve to address our challenges in an atmosphere of peace, conviviality and fraternity and not confrontation.

The Nigerian National Summit Group would at no distant time release an already prepared structured time table for zonal consultations and all requisite modalities leading to the convening of a national conference/dialogue. The problems of our country today are too endemic for revelry and ceremonies in the name of national political summit.

Long Live Nigerian Summit Group
Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria

Alhaji S.A Tanko Yakasai, OFR
National Chairman.
