Rivers Economic Advisory Council Appointed Non-Elected Council Member Of PHCCIMA

The Rivers state Economic Advisory council, RSEAC has appointed, Barr. Francis Elechi, the advisory council's standing committee chairman on Agriculture, Commerce and Industry to represent the body as a non elected council member in Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce executive council.

The decision which was taken during the 113thplenary meeting of the Rivers State Economic Advisory Council held on August 1st2013, was in response to a proposal put forward by PHCCIMA President, Engr. Emeka Unachukwu when he led a delegation of PHCCIMA members to RSEAC's office on a courtesy visit.

The PHCCIMA helmsman had during the visit on the 4thof July 2013 proposed RSEAC's inclusion as non-elected council member of the PHCCIMA, expressing confidence that the move will develop a virile synergy and encourage progressive interface between the two bodies in the interest of the state. Unachukwu had also noted that the inclusion will open vistas of opportunities and further the economic fortunes of the state to a whole new height.

Also during the visit, the First Deputy President of PHCCIMA, Dr. Renny Cookey had also solicited for a closer relationship between the two bodies in the fight against multiple taxations while advocating that concerted effort should be made to pull through the harmonized taxing system presently before the Rivers state House of Assembly for ratification.

Similarly in his remark during the visit, the Chairman of the Rivers state Economic Advisory council, Prof. Nimi Briggs had commended PHCCIMA for reflecting in this direction, assuring the delegation in the process that the advisory council shall appoint a member to represent the council; a promise that has been fulfilled following the nomination of Barr. Elechi.
