Eid-Ul-Fitri: Abatemi-Usman Preaches Unity, Love Among Nigerians

By Michael Jegede

Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, has called on the entire people of the country to continue to show love and affection for one another in the interest of peace and unity.

Abatemi-Usman, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, made the call in a statement issued from his office to congratulate Nigerians, particularly, the Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid ul-Fitri.

The youngest Senator in the Seventh Senate implored his fellow Muslim brothers and sisters to endeavour to sustain the basic lessons of the Ramadam Fast, which in his words, include among others mutual love, selflessness and the fear of God.

The statement signed by the Senator's Media Assistant, Michael Jegede reads in part: 'I wish to felicitate with the entire Muslim world on the Feast of Breakfast (Eid Al-Fitr). May I remind us all that at this period of our national life, it is important, more than ever before, to amidst the euphoria of the festivity sustain the lessons of the Ramadan Fast. In particular, we need carry on, in all facets of our life, the basic lesson of God-consciousness through mutual and neighbourly love, selflessness and righteousness which are, indeed, the virtues for nation building.'

It continued: 'Nigerians must endeavour to always be their brothers' keepers. It is only via sincere love and affection for one another that we can continue to live in harmony and unity. This Sallah celebration should be seen as another opportunity to reconcile our differences to pave way for the entrenchment of peace in the society, which is a major factor for the growth and development of any country.'

Senator Abatemi-Usman equally appealed to those who have any form of grievances to always see dialogue as the best option in conflict resolution, rather than indulge in violence that would only lead to loss of lives and destruction of property.
