Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Elections in the Republic of Zimbabwe

TOKYO, Japan, August 6, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- Japan congratulates the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe and its people on the peaceful conduct of the first elections held under the new constitution.

Japan hopes that the concerns which have been raised about the elections are dealt with in an appropriate manner, and that the will of the people of Zimbabwe will be respected by fair and peaceful means, through dialogue and cooperation between concerned parties. Japan will continue to follow the situation closely in the country.
