Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru Undertakes Official Visit To Indonesia And The Phillipines

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga A. Ashiru, MFR is undertaking an official visit to Indonesia and The Philippines from 25-30 July 2013.

Apart from strengthening and deepening relations between Nigeria and the two countries, the visit is aimed at promoting trade and investments into Nigeria. It will also focus on consular challenges, especially the plight of Nigerians on death row. In addition, the visit will provide an opportunity to solicit support for Nigeria's bid for a non- permanent seat on the UN Security Council at the elections in New York, October 2013.

It is recalled that relations between Nigeria and Indonesia witnessed a significant boost with the visit of the President of Indonesia, His Excellency, Mr Susilo Bambang-Yudhoyono in February 2013. During the visit, bilateral discussions on a wide range of issues were discussed. Similarly, the Joint Commission between the two countries will be held between the 25th-26th July 2013 in Jakarta, Indonesia, while the Nigeria-Philippines Joint Commission is scheduled to hold in Manila, The Philippines from 29th-30th July, 2013.

Several Agreements and Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between Nigeria and the two countries covering trade and investment protection, agriculture, tourism, prison agreements, immigration, education, among others.
