Robbery scare force banks to close in Asaba
Commercial banks in Asaba, Delta State capital, yesterday, closed shop for few hours amid strong rumours in the city that armed gangs were threatening to storm the banks in the city.
Although, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Lucky Uyabeme dismissed the speculation of impending attack on banks, bank officials and customers were still gripped with fear, while plain-clothes armed security personnel were found lurking within and outside the bank premises.
Uyabeme said: 'Though police learnt that some of the banks did not open due to the rumours, we affirm that it was baseless. We are on top of the situation.'
