LATE SENATOR PIUS EWHERIDO

...Postpones Constitution Amendment Debate
...Sets Up 9-Member Burial Committee
ABUJA, July 02, (THEWILL) – The Senate on Tuesday put off its plenary session in honour of their fallen colleague, Senator Pius Ewherido.

Evherido died in the afternoon of Sunday at the National Hospital, Abuja after taking ill last week Friday.

Consequently, the Senate also deferred debates on the report of the Senate Committee on the amendment of the 1999 Constitution till next Tuesday.

However, the Senate inaugurated a nine-member burial committee to liaise with the family of its late colleague.

Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba SAN (Cross River/PDP), who on Tuesday in Abuja moved a motion for the adjournment, said the Senate had suffered an unspeakable loss.

"There is nothing on our order paper; this is deliberate because on June 30, we suffered an unspeakable loss. One of our best and brightest passed on.

"So, I move that we observe one minute silence in his honour, and adjourn till Wednesday,’’ he said.

The Senate President, David Mark, said the proposed debate on the report of the 1999 Constitution Review Committee which was to begin on Tuesday would also be postponed to July 9.

The Senate observed a one-minute silence in honour of Ehwerido and adjourned the session since there was nothing on the order paper for consideration.

The committee is to be chaired by Sen. Suleiman Adokwe (Nasarawa/PDP) with Senators James Manager, Ifeanyi Okowa, Olushola Adeyeye, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Ita Enang, Nenadi Usman, Gyang Pwajok and Joshua Lidani as members.
