By The Citizen

Globacom has launched a mobile newspaper service which gives subscribers on the network access to news alerts on the mobile portal via SMS.

A statement signed by the company’s Coordinator, Marketing, Mr. Adeniyi Olukoya, Globacom said that the service known as Glo-Mpaper.is accessible via subscription.

“We are glad to announce to our esteemed subscribers the birth of Glo-Mpaper, a service that supplies news from local and international newspapers to subscribers over SMS and WAP (Wireless Application Protocol). The beauty of this service from our stable is that beyond the immediacy of delivering the news items as they break, users can subscribe to at least three different newspapers,” the statement added.

According to Globacom, accessing the service is easy and users could change their newspaper category as many times as they wish free-of-charge, just as the service would be opened to any brand or model of handset.
It stressed that all categories of subscribers on both the prepaid and postpaid platforms could access the service and would not be required to have any GPRS connectivity to enjoy the service.

“All a subscriber needs to do to access the service is to have a basic handset with Globacom connection.  As soon as the pre-paid customer confirms his subscription, the relevant charge will be automatically deducted from the current balance, while a postpaid customer will have the charges added to his or her monthly bill,” the statement explained. The service costs N50 per week.
