Gov. Jang set to Emerge Governor's Forum Chairman…Mimiko is Deputy

Other things being equal, Plateau state Governor, Jonah Jang, will later today be crowned the new chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

A source at the closed door meeting held at the Akwa Ibom State Governor's lodge an hour ago,  disclosed that the Governors decided to settle for Jang when Bauchi state Governor, Isa Yuguda and Shehu Shema of Katsina refused to agree on who would step down.

If both men had entered the race, there would have have been a split of votes which may give Governor Rotimi Amaechi some leverage.

After embattled  Amechi fell out with the powers that be, Shema was touted as the next chairman, but along the line Yuguda joined the race. Sequel to this development the Governors led by Akwa Ibom's Godswill Akpabio, tried to persuade both men to reach some form of agreement, but the move failed Friday afternoon.

Pointblanknews.com also gathered that Ondo State Governor, Segum Mimiko has been given the deputy's spot.

As at press time, the Governor's were heading for the River's Governor's lodge were Jang would officially be made NGF chairman.

Meanwhile, there are indications that Amaechi may have concluded plans to dump the PDP if he fails to clinch the much coveted spot. Amaechi who had banked on the support of opposition Governors and the Northern Governors Forum , was dumped at the last minute.
