PAP announces its 2014 Budget, adopts 2013 Budget

JOHANNESBURG, South-Africa, May 13, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Pan-African Parliament's total budget for the year 2014 stands at US$11,685,390.00, with $2,7m allotted to administrative costs and $8,9m allotted to operational costs. The 2014 budget covers the holding of two Ordinary Sessions of the PAP for a maximum duration of 10 working days each, of two meetings of the PAP Bureau, the holding of two joint meetings of the Bureau and Bureaus of Committees and the holding of two sitting of Committees, all coinciding with the Ordinary Sessions.

The 2014 Budget seeks to achieve the key priorities, which are the effective implementation of the policies and objectives of the African Union (AU); the implementation of the Principles of Human Rights and Democracy in Africa; the promotion of good governance, respect for law, transparency and accountability; the promoting of peace, security and stability in Africa; the improving of institutional and technical capacity at PAP; the promotion of cooperation among regional economic communities (RECs) in Africa and the encouragement of continental solidarity, cooperation and development to build common destiny in Africa.

The 2013 Budget, which was considered and adopted during today's (Friday) Plenary Session stands at $15,631,922.00, with $11,6m allotted to operational costs and $3,9m allotted to programme budget.
