A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Divine Care Global Community Initiative (DCGCI) has paid the hospital bills of 10 indigent patients at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki.

The National Coordinator of DCGCI, Mr. Dandi Odii, while handing over the cheque of over N424, 000 to the management of the hospital yesterday said, the NGO did the same thing last year when bills were paid for indigent patients.

He said after last year's visit to the hospital it was discovered that there were so many indigent patients that were treated and discharged but had no money to pay their hospital bills. This he said made the group to approach the management of the hospital for the payment.

Odii commended the management of the hospital for deducting 50 per cent of the bill, which amounted to over N800, 000 that enabled the NGO to pay over N400, 000 to release the indigent patients.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Health represented by the Director of Public Health and Disease Control in the ministry, Dr. Chris Achi commended the efforts of the NGO in coming to the aid of , and for putting smiles to the faces of indigent patients in the hospital.

He also thanked the management of the hospital for waving 50 per cent of the total bills for the patients, saying that the hospital has been given services in the areas of primary, secondary and tertiary health services at a very low rate compared to other teaching hospitals in the country.
