Cowbell Football Academy eyes foreign consultant

By Seyi Ogunbameru

Lagos, Nigeria, 26 February, 2013: Cowbell Football Academy (CFA) is partnering with Mr. Sunny Izevbigie, an American-based coach and former Super Eagles player as a consultant on overseas career development for the players.

Mr. Dudu Orumen, Rector of the CFA disclosed this during a training session of the academy at the Mainbowl of the National Stadium in Lagos recently.

He said beside the development of the players for football, the academy is also interested in their educational development.

Orumen went through memory lane to explain how Mr. Izevbigie got a scholarship to study at the Harvard University in the United States America (US) after Nigeria won the All African Games in 1973.

Already, one of the CFA players, Tony Amolo has a scholarship to study in an American University.

In an interview, Izevbigie said there was so much training that they could be done for children right from the age of five, adding that is when South American and European players develop their playing skills.

He said something is missing both technically and administratively in African football. On the technical side, he said of exposure is affecting African players while on the administrative side it is better to tolerate an indisciplined player to get result than to drop him from play.

Izevbigie admitted that because of the exposure of African footballers to European football, Africa has grown so much compared to what it was in the 1970s.
