Gunmen Attack PDP Chieftains In Delta

SAN FRANCISCO, February 03, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), South South, Chief Steve Oru and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon Ndidi Elumelu, were attacked, Sunday, by unknown gunmen in separate incidents in Delta State.

The attacks came as an unidentified youth corps member was reportedly shot dead same day along the Bomadi bridge in Bomadi Council Areas of the State.

While Oru was allegedly shot along the Agbarho/Ughelli Expressway in Ughelli North Council Area of the State, Elumelu was said to have been attacked along the Osubi Airstrip road in Warri..

Though it is not clear yet if the attacks were a coordinated one, report said while the two PDP chieftains survived the attacks, their security aides and orderlies were not that lucky as they lost their lives in the incidents.

Oru, who was hit by bullets from the armed gang, was immediately rushed to the Oghara Teaching Hospital.

The saving grace for Elumelu, according to sources, was that he was not in the convoy when the gunmen ambushed the convoy and rained volleys of hot lead on the vehicles, killing his aide instantly.

Details of the two incidents were still sketchy as at the time of filling this reporrt but the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, ASP Famous Ajieh, who confirmed the incidents in a telephone conversation said Elumelu was not in the vehicle but his aides were attacked.
